Mr Solly Malatsi was appointed as Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies from 3 July 2024.
He is an experienced communications specialist with an illustrious career across different spheres of government as a spokesperson.
He is a Member of Parliament who has served in various portfolios such as Sports and Recreation, Human Settlements, and Communications.
His leadership tenure in Parliament includes previous roles as the Counsellor to the Leader of the Official Opposition and a full term as a whip for the parliamentary caucus. His previous roles in communications include spells as the spokesperson for the Western Cape Member of the Executive Council for Transport and Public Works, and the Mayor of Cape Town.
Prior to his appointment as Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies, Mr Malatsi served as the national spokesperson for the Democratic Alliance (DA).
He holds a Bachelor of Administration degree from the University of Limpopo and an Honours degree in Political Studies from the University of the Witwatersrand.
Mr Malatsi has held several leadership positions within the DA, including Provincial Deputy Chairperson in Limpopo. He is an elected Deputy Federal Chairperson; a role he has served in since 2023.
